Breve Curriculum Vitae

Lucio Grandinetti è dal 2012 Professore Emerito dell’Università della Calabria presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Informatica , Modellistica,  Elettronica e Sistemistica – DIMES . dopo essere stato dal 1986 al 2011 Professore Ordinario presso la stessa Università , dove ha iniziato la propria carriera  accademica e scientifica  a partire dal 1974.    

Egli ha ricoperto, nell’Università  della Calabria ( UNICAL ), ruoli di considerevole responsabilità istituzionale e di significativa importanza , in alcuni casi per periodi notevolmente prolungati.

E’ stato Direttore dell’ ex Dipartimento di Sistemi e poi del Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informatica e Sistemistica ( DEIS ), a partire dal 1986 per complessivi 10 anni senza soluzione di continuità; in questo periodo ha attivamente contribuito all’ideazione e costituzione del  DEIS  dalla fusione dei pre-esistenti dipartimenti Elettrico e Sistemi.

Ha ricoperto la carica elettiva di Presidente del Consiglio di Corso di Laurea in Ingegneria Gestionale per oltre un decennio ininterrottamente, a partire dal 1990.

E’ stato coordinatore per oltre un decennio del Corso di Dottorato in Ricerca Operativa, a partire dalla istituzione di quest’ultimo.

Ha ricoperto la carica elettiva di rappresentante dei professori di prima fascia nel CdA dell’Ateneo per cinque consiliature biennali, a partire dal 1987, quasi senza soluzione di continuità. In alcune di queste consiliature ha svolto la funzione di Presidente di alcune delle Commissioni istruttorie permanenti.

A partire dal 1° Novembre 1999, ha ricoperto ininterrottamente fino al 2011 la carica di Pro-Rettore vicario dell’Ateneo. Durante questo periodo, nell’ambito del proprio ruolo istituzionale, o in ambiti ad esso collegati, ha presieduto Commissioni istruttorie di Ateneo di notevole importanza e diretto alcuni rilevanti progetti fra i quali quello per l’orientamento denominato “Oracolo”, premiato dal Ministero per l’Università con il riconoscimento di progetto di eccellenza e con l’indicazione di progetto “best practice”.

Il prof. Grandinetti, come ricercatore e docente, ha svolto un’attività di alta divulgazione e promozione culturale attraverso molteplici ruoli, impegni e responsabilità.

Nel 1992, è stato fondatore, presso il Dipartimento DEIS, del laboratorio “Parcolab” (Parallel Computing Laboratory) che ha effettuato attività pionieristiche nel campo dell’allora nascente settore del calcolo parallelo. Queste attività hanno fermentato un notevole sviluppo della ricerca nel settore a livello nazionale e internazionale, testimoniato da pubblicazioni scientifiche, organizzazione di convegni internazionali e titolarità di rilevanti progetti (ad esempio, Progetto EUROMED finanziato dalla Commissione Europea).

Questo sviluppo è culminato con il conseguimento del prestigioso risultato di essere fra i vincitori –su base competitiva- del concorso indetto dal MIUR per la costituzione di Centri di Eccellenza. E’stato infatti costituito presso l’UNICAL, a partire dal 2001, il Centro di Eccellenza MIUR per il Calcolo ad Alte Prestazioni, su progetto presentato da un gruppo di ricercatori coordinato dal Prof. Grandinetti, unitamente ad altri gruppi di ricercatori dell’Ateneo afferenti ai Dipartimenti di Fisica, Chimica, Matematica, Scienza della Terra, Difesa del Suolo. Il Centro, presieduto dal Prof. Grandinetti per tutta la durata quinquennale del suo finanziamento, ha svolto numerose attività di ricerca avanzata, con risonanza sia nazionale che internazionale ; alcune di queste attività sono state coronate dal conferimento –su base competitiva- di alcuni importanti progetti, fra i quali vale la pena menzionare l’istallazione nell’Ateneo di una rete telematica a fibra ottica ad alta velocità e della realizzazione del progetto SPACI, primo caso di progetto prototipale GRID in Italia.

In anni più recenti, il Prof. Grandinetti è stato co-promotore e co-realizzatore del CESIC (Centro di Supercalcolo per l’Ingegneria Computazionale), un’importante iniziativa di cooperazione nel campo della ricerca industriale con l’Impresa multinazionale giapponese NEC; iniziativa (del valore di circa 10 milioni di Euro di investimento in ricerca e formazione) al tempo del suo avvio fortemente innovativa, non fosse altro che per aver progettato e realizzato un Corso di Master di 2° Livello, adottato dalla Facoltà di Ingegneria dell’UNICAL, in Sistemi e Tecnologie Avanzate per il Supercalcolo, unico esempio –allora- di alta formazione nel settore in Italia.

 

L’attività scientifica e di ricerca del Prof. Grandinetti è stata costantemente testimoniata da numerose pubblicazioni scientifiche (una selezione delle quali si trova nell’allegato A1), alcune delle quali su riviste internazionali prestigiose nel campo della Teoria dei Sistemi, dell’Ottimizzazione numerica, del Calcolo Parallelo e, più recentemente, delle Tecnologie GRID e CLOUD.

E’inoltre co-autore , o editore , o co-editore  in  22  libri (lista allegata in A2), nel settore del calcolo scientifico avanzato, pubblicati in sedi internazionali note e prestigiose (ad es., North Holland, Kluwer, Elsevier, Springer). Il volume “High Performance Computing: from GRIDS and CLOUDS to Exascale”, pubblicato da IOS Press di Amsterdam nel 2011 ha il Prof. Ian Foster (University of Chicago e Argonne National Laboratory, USA) come uno dei co-editori; il Prof. Foster è riconosciuto universalmente come il “padre fondatore” della tecnologia GRID.

In campo pubblicistico ed editoriale, il Prof. Grandinetti annovera inoltre l’appartenenza a team editoriali delle seguenti importanti e prestigiose       riviste  internazionali del settore:

Da notare, con particolare rilievo, che il Prof. Grandinetti è stato European Editor di una collana di libri, molto nota internazionalmente, della casa editrice MIT Press di Boston (Scientific and Engineering Computation Series).

 

Oltre all’intensa attività pubblicistica ed editoriale, il Prof. Grandinetti è stato responsabile di numerosi progetti di ricerca di rilevanza nazionale ed internazionale, fra i quali:

Nel campo della divulgazione e promozione culturale, il Prof. Grandinetti si è anche distinto per essere l’organizzatore (sempre con il patrocinio dell’UNICAL) di una serie di convegni internazionali biennali (iniziata nel 1992) e tuttora pienamente attiva, sul Calcolo ad Alte Prestazioni. Questa serie ha raggiunto un’ampia notorietà internazionale ( due edizioni sponsorizzate e parzialmente finanziate dalla NATO ), potendosi ormai annoverare fra le maggiori e più qualificate manifestazioni nel settore a livello europeo.

 

Il Prof. Grandinetti ha attivamente operato per molti anni come membro, eletto dalla comunità nazionale della Ricerca Operativa, del Consiglio Scientifico del CIRO-Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca Operativa e dell’AIRO –Associazione Italiana di Ricerca Operativa-.

E’ anche, da numerosi anni, membro di vari associazioni scientifiche internazionali, alcune molto prestigiose nel campo dell’ Ingegneria dell’Informazione, come IEEE-Computer Society e ACM; ma, soprattutto, vale la pena di sottolineare che egli ha fatto parte per alcuni anni del comitato internazionale TCPP (Technical Committee on Parallel Procesing) organo di consulenza della prestigioa associazione americana IEEE.

E’stato per circa trent’anni costantemente coinvolto nel comitato organizzatore e /o scientifico e di programma di convegni nazionali ed internazionali nei settori di ricerca di suo interesse, dianzi citati.

Non è mancata al prof. Grandinetti anche una estesa attività seminariale svolta su invito presso ambienti ed istituzioni scientifiche internazionali; alcune delle Università ed Istituti scientifici sedi di queste attività sono stati:

Infine, va ricordata fra le attività del Prof. Grandinetti che hanno dato, direttamente o indirettamente, anche lustro all’Ateneo, quella di consulenza che, per oltre quindici anni, (a partire dal 1993), è stato chiamato a svolgere in qualità di esperto scientificamente qualificato internazionalmente, nel monitoraggio e nella valutazione di importanti progetti di alta tecnologia e calcolo avanzato attribuiti e finanziati dalla Commissione Europea (una selezione è elencata nell’allegato A3).
